Seriously though I agree with what your saying but going from personal experience many people buying on ebay and maybe ringing round couriers for the first time tend to use the post office and parcelforce rates as a benchmark for what they expect to pay.The point is a lot of people already have a price in mind that they want to pay and therefore it would do no harm to quote this just as a guide price. A courier, backloading carrier or a sales rep like yourself can then see how far off their original route they need to go to make it viable, and quote accordingly.No point quoting your £50 if the client has alreaday decided they are not going to pay over £20, because thats what parcelforce would charge.This is despite the fact that the direct running that this site encourages is logistically completely different from the mail and groupage systems most people are familar with. Can u get an elephant in your car!

Of course, you wouldn't expect someone to drive all the way to Glasgow from - say - Brighton to pick up a model elephant to deliver back to London for £50. But what about if you've already taken something up to Aberdeen and you're driving back south empty? Maybe not £150, but surely worth bidding £50 or so if its en route anyway? I'm a sales rep. The couriers on here want to make money and the senders want to save money but there needs to be some compulsory indication from the senders as to what they would roughly like to pay.We have quoted rates to Joe Public that our business customers would take in an instant but JP still say too dear.
